Now I'm really freaked out

March 28th, 2008 at 07:45 pm

I got a call marked private around 12:40 today. (I noticed it on the caller ID when I got home) After the break-in, can you say I'm a tad paranoid? So usually I would have just ignored it and put the phone down, but I decided to check my voicemail. They left a message. It was whispered and it sounded either like "B*tch, you gonna die in seven days" or "Betcha gonna die in seven days." Something like that. I am TOTALLY freaked out. It may have just been a student prank calling, but HELLO we were in school at the time. I don't know, but it freaks me out.

I called ADT before checking the voicemail and they're coming out today to hook up services. Woo hoo to that!

I don't know. I give out my home number to students so that they can call for extensions on assignments or ask questions when they need help. I caught a few kids e-mailing nasty things to eachother on this google group our lit teacher set up for them (I signed up for it as the SPED teacher so I could be in touch with assignments, etc.) This was during the school day, so it was not an approved use of the computers. Well, one of the kids e-mailing nasty things stole one of the laptops. He's now suspended. It could have been him? Maybe? Do I have reason to wig out? Sigh. This is TOO much for me to handle right now!!!

So sorry this goofy stuff continues. We have AT&T and they offer a service called "Privacy Manager" I don't know how much we pay for it (nominal, I'm sure) if anything comes through "Private" they have to say their name into a recorder and you have the option of accepting or declining. I'd consider it if these calls continue.

I would call your police and let them know. The could find out who did it and then have a little chat with that person.

I always feel being proactive helps me calm down and am not waiting for the next bad thing to happen.

Yes, in light of the break-in, call the police.

OMG!!! Call the cops ASAP and save all those messages. Note the date and times or save them
I am glad that you are getting an alarm. I am hoping it isnot the kids you exchanged numbers with. I exchange numbers all the time and have not had any problems, thank God
Good luck. Also when you get the calls you can report it to the phone comapany, give them a call and they will give you a code to key in

Your local phone service probably has a free tracing service for this case. Call then about it. My sister had to do that once and the anonymous person was caught. But that was before the days of cell phones. I do know a teacher who was assaulted by a student and my husband has had some close calls, one involving a student with a gun. Take it seriously, even though chances are the person was just being an creep with an ugly mouth.

    Hahaha, amateurs.

I know this is really scary stuff. I'm not trying to belittle your plight. In fact, this is very serious to me.

Here's what I hope will calm your nerves however:

    1. Whoever you're dealing with has left evidence behind that you can play back to the Police AND to the judge later when they are charged and brought to court.

    2. Leaving such evidence behind just means to me that you're most likely dealing with amateurs who don't really know what they're doing. That's good!

People can make hollow threats all day long, and while they should all be taken seriously, at the end of the day, you're still safe like before.

I would most definitely contact the police, ask to find out how to get a copy of a police report, ask if it's possible for extra patrols around your neighborhood, and if you have a video camcorder or camera, please have them at the ready at all times.

Also, be sure to save any and all suspicious voice recordings. In short, document everything.

You poor thing! Keep us posted and let us know if they catch this creep. Yes, give the police the info (evidence) for sure! Be careful!

They've had several break-ins in my condo community in the space of a week. I called Brink's and got my security system installed ASAP. I feel much better whether I'm at home or away from home.
