WiseBread

June 4th, 2008 at 09:19 pm

During the past few months, I've apparently gained a bit of weight (more like a truckload). I was reading wisebread.com this afternoon and saw stickK.com where you pledge money if you don't reach your goals. If you do reach your goal, you get your money back. If you don't reach your goal, you can choose where the money should go. I have chosen the anti-charity route for psychological purposes. I NEED to lose weight! Here's the link to my profile. You can check up on me all you'd like (you're all like family now anyway):

Poke me, prod me, but please help me from giving money to the NRA (my apologies if you have a membership).

I read a book on enzyme nutrition, which had some suggestions for weight loss: raw foods (except spinach, you want to cook the spinach), and cut down on the refined sugar and processed grains. I am experimenting with germinating or soaking grains to release the enzymes that are inhibited.

I'm intrigued by the psychological tactic of aversion. It worked for me to maintain a high GPA, or else I'd have to sing at the busiest corner of a major city (major embarrassment, as I can not sing).

Oh yes, walk loads, also. I lost eight-nine pounds over three months, from walking. One friend told me she lost an equal amount of weight from cycling and eating just raw fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I suggested raw foods earlier: they are inherently less fattening than the same amount of calories in cooked food. One can stuff on raw food with little danger of producing excess weight, providing it is eaten in place of other food, and not in addition to it. Also avoid frequent snacks. You can try also drinking 2 tsps. apple cider vinegar with 2 tsps. honey or organic maple syrup mixed in water in the morning.

Good luck honey! I hear you! I'm sure I'm up and if I don't watch it, I will be rolling over to the big 200! Yikes! I'll root for you, but do'nt forget we have to fix those "underlying" problems that help us put those pounds on!

Good luck with your challenge! I'm in the same boat as you: near initial weight AND wishing for target weight. Bleah....

I agree with both of Paulette's suggestions. I'm actually going on a raw-foods diet for a couple weeks in July! (Two days fully raw, the rest with cooked whole-foods dinners.) Get lots of things to munch on and you'll be amazed how it feels. Last time I did it, I stopped getting thirsty because there's so much water in the fruit and veggies. I also didn't get out of breath on the treadmill no matter how fast I walked. Weird!

Also, once there was a three-month bus strike in my city, and I had no car so I was FORCED to walk a half hour to work and a half hour back, five days a week, as well as to the grocery store and anywhere else I needed to go. I lost almost 10 pounds in that period without doing ANY other exercise.

PS: The stick you chose is both hilarious and terrifying! Good luck!!
